IT Metrics: Past, Present and Future

Omega effectively develops the Army's IT Metrics Program.

Alexandria, VA (June 25, 2001)-Omega Security International, LLC, a full service information technology, telecommunications and broadband Internet connectivity provider, released today an update about its productive development of the Army's Information Technology Metrics Program, and revealed some plans for the future.

The Information Technology Metrics Program is comprised of two interactive web sites that provide the interface for Directors of Information Management (DOIM) to assess readiness of base-level IT capabilities that support installation missions and national security. Last year, 155 installations reported data to the web sites, and Omega's IT Metrics team fielded over 200 trouble calls and requests for assistance. The team will be travelling to multiple installations this summer to support the After Action Reviews (AAR) and conduct on-site training. Based on users' feedback, Omega is planning five major web site enhancements that will include creation of a new web site for the Visual Information (VI) proponent and addition of tools designed to assist with data analysis.

Omega's IT Metrics team drafted the Army's Strategic Activity Based Costing (ABC) Plan for the Director of Information Services for Command, Control, Communications and Computers (DISC4). The ABC Plan focuses on providing a cost management program within DISC4's agencies to promote more efficient business practices and uses Oros ABCPlus Software as the medium to garner an agency's real cost of doing business.

The IT Metrics team has been working closely with DOIMs and the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management's (ACSIM) Office on the development and refinement of the Baseline Services for the Army's IT arena. Baseline Services will comprise a standard set of services that will be provided free of charge to the units and organizations at every Continental Unites States (CONUS) installation. The Baseline Services Initiative is in the formation stage and is due to be implemented in CONUS in fiscal year 2003.

Omega's IT Metrics team is gearing up for their 6th Annual Workshop, which brings representatives of the installations, Main Subordinate Commands (MSC) and Major Area Commands (MACOM) to Alexandria, Virginia to review the previous submission period. The team will organize the administrative details, develop the agenda and present briefings to the group during the 4-day workshop. The goal of the workshop is to further refine the IT Metrics submission process in order to provide value-added data and assist DOIMs and commanders with resource allocation and process decisions.
