DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
Omega Security International, LLC. offers three types of DSL: ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and IDSL (ISDN Digital Subscriber Line).

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology that provides high-speed Internet access over ordinary copper wire telephone lines also known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS). DSL Internet access can be up to 12 times faster than an ISDN line and up to 125 times faster than a 56.6K dial-up modem connection.
DSL Benefits
Always On No more busy signals and broken connections.
Fast up to 125 times faster than a 56.6K dial-up modem.
Reliable telephone company networks experience only minutes of downtime each year.
Convenient call and surf the web simultaneously, or use several computers on a single DSL line with dedicated connection and speed.
Cost Effective offers more benefits and costs less than cable, satellite or ISDN.
ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) uses the same ordinary copper wire telephone line for both phone service and high-speed Internet connection. For example, it allows to talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time. This is accomplished by sending the DSL signal over the line at a higher frequency than is used by voice. ADSL supports up to 8 Mbps bandwidth for downloading and up to 1 Mbps for uploading. The asymmetric nature of ADSL technology makes it ideal for Internet/Intranet surfing, video-on-demand and remote local area network (LAN) access. ADSL users typically download more information than they send.
SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) uses a dry copper wire telephone line and cannot carry voice calls. SDSL requires installation of a separate telephone line in addition to the ordinary telephone service. Symmetric DSL offers the same upload and download speeds that range from 160 Kbps up to 1.5 Mbps. SDSL is ideal for business networking and applications such as video conferencing.
IDSL (ISDN Digital Subscriber Line) is ISDN based DSL. It uses the same type of line-modulation technique employed in ISDN and SDSL. IDSL provides symmetric download and upload speeds from 64 to 144 Kbps. An existing ISDN line can be converted to IDSL.

The exact speed of a DSL connection depends on the distance from the user's location to the DSL equipment in the local phone company's central office. Shorter distance provides for a higher connection speed. The speed is also affected by the quality of the phone line and of the wiring available at the user's location.
